Florida National members are part of a long heritage of citizen-soldiers beginning with the first Florida Militia who helped guard the Spanish settlement of St. Augustine in September 1565. Castillo de San Marcos was begun in 1672 and completed in 1695. It served under the flags of Spain, England, the Confederacy, and The U.S.

The center shield of our patch is a line rendition of the Castillo de San Marcos. The Castillo de San Marcos has played an important role as a strategic military post in the New World. For further information on this and other Historic sites in Florida please - click here.

The Florida National Guard

The Headquarters of the Florida National Guard is located in St. Augustine at the historic Saint Francis Barracks. The Barracks history closely parallels the story of the port city of St. Augustine, Florida. For more than four hundred years there has been a building at the present headquarters of the Florida National Guard. Join us there for July 4th!
